
IIT Ropar
Introduction
At present, the institute offers Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) programme in the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Metallurgical and
Materials Engineering. This programme is spread over a period of eight semesters. The institute also offers M.Tech programme in several disciplines including Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The institute also offers M.Sc programme in the following disciplines : Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Additionally the institute also offers M.S(R) programmes
in Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The institute also offers doctoral programmes in the following areas:

IIT Ropar was established by MHRD in 2008. The classes for academic session 2008–2009 were held at IIT Delhi. The Institute started functioning from its transit campus in Rupnagar from 1st August 2009.
Department
Campus
The Institute with 40 students each in the disciplines of Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering started running from its mentor institute campus at IIT Delhi from 23 July, 2008. The institute currently operates from the premises of Government
Polytechnic College for Girls (Ropar), which has been full renovated and furnished. In a few years, the institute will be relocated to its own campus, spread over a 500 acre area, along the banks of the river
Satluj.
Transit Campus
The temporary campus for IIT Ropar is set up with all the facilities as required. Class rooms fitted with multimedia, faculty rooms administrative wing are all in place. There
are three hostels; two for boys and one for girls equipped with modern messing units in place and operational. Faculty recruitment, creation of laboratories and other support facilities are in full swing. The
Institute is operating from the transit campus at Ropar from this session and has started the classes from 18th August 2009.
Future Campus
The Government of Punjab has provided 500 acres
of land at a scenic location near the banks of Satluj river for IIT Ropar. Appointment of consultants and architects for building the new campus has begun.
