
IIT Jammu
Introduction
The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was inaugurated on 6th August 2016, and welcomed the first batch of students into the campus in Paloura, Jammu. In the initial phases, the establishment
of IIT Jammu was done under the mentorship of IIT Delhi.
In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted the primary operations to the Main Campus in Jagti, Nagrota. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has provided land for the establishment of a permanent campus of the Indian Institute
of Technology in Jammu, which consists of 400 acres. Currently the Phase 1 A of the main campus, spread across 25 acres, is operational. Phase 1 B and 1 C are undergoing construction.
The campus
in Paloura currently houses the PhD scholars and is being developed into a high-end research facility.
The main campus of the Institute is located on National Highway 44 and is about 15 kilometers
from the Airport.

The on-campus facilities include hostel accommodation for all students closer to academic area, cafeteria, open gym, Open air theatre, laundry machines, digital classrooms, ubiquitous anytime WiFi, Lan, C3I Central computing facilities, Music room, TT tables, snooker table, Medical Units, and a common hall with TV for indoor recreational activities. History
Jammu is the largest city in the Jammu Division and the winter capital of state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated on the banks of Tawi river. Jammu is located at 32.73°N 74.87°E.
It has an average
elevation of 327 m (1,073 ft). Jammu city lies at uneven ridges of low heights at the Shivalik hills. It is surrounded by Shivalik range to the north, east and southeast while the Trikuta Range surrounds it
in the north-west. It is approximately 600 kilometres (370 mi) from the national capital, New Delhi. The city spreads around the Tawi river with the old city overlooking it from the north (right bank) while

UG Programme
IIT Jammu started B. Tech. programme in the year 2016 with an initial intake of 30 students each in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering discipline. In the year 2017, B. Tech. in Civil Engineering discipline started with an initial intake of 30 students. In the year 2018, B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering discipline started with an initial intake of 30 students. Starting with the 2019-20 session, B. Tech. in Materials Engineering was added with an initial intake of 30 students. IIT Jammu has updated seat intake in 2021 re-emphasizing our approach to inter-disciplinarity that is deeply rooted in our own Academic structure from 2019. We have started the department of Bio-Sciences and Bio-Engineering (BSBE) in 2021 to provide exposure to our students in this area.
