The contemporary apprehension of the importance of grades in academia is quite dumbfounding. Apparently, by caring too much about grades, most of the students are missing the point of education. An education is often cited as a prerequisite for a \u201cgood job\u201d out in the real world. With this interpretation of the significance of school\/college, many students get enfolded up in their grades, often taking them as value statements on their own self-worth. Thinking \u201cgood grades\u201d bring good job, good money and good lifestyle is quite illogical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grades are only a projection of how well you did in a certain time period on a certain subject. They do not necessarily correctly represent your ability or you. The problem is that because schools\/colleges use grades as a form of determining admissions, grades have become important in an out-of-proportion manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what if you scored low or failed in an exam? It\u2019s not the end of the world and yes, it will hit you hard but eventually you will get over it. What matters is how we perceive our failures. They are more important than any of the victories for it entails with it life transforming lessons. You are not your grades. You are not your point average or transcript. You are a human being. What\u2019s more, you are yourself. Only you can reach your full potential and fully be yourself. Anyone can bring \u201cA\u201d in organic chemistry. Anyone can write a thesis for his\/her departmental honours program. But you don\u2019t have to be that anyone, you can be \u201cYOU\u201d and you are already so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten years down the lane from now, no one will remember what your grades were. If you make mistakes, move on. It will never be too late to improve, to change your mind or to step-up. It\u2019s never too late to become a person who you\u2019ve always wanted to be. Instead of worrying, do what really matters to you and what you find important. The push to have the best grades, the best internships, to attend the most prestigious universities- none of it matters unless it\u2019s what you really want. You don\u2019t necessarily have to be better than anybody because you never will. You can only ever be better than the person you were yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember, grades don\u2019t even define one thing about who you are and perhaps, who you would become in near future. They\u2019re just letters and numbers which will fade with time. At the end of the day, we are all human. Yes, we can\u2019t do everything but we can do anything and excel in it. Life is full of endless possibilities and there is much, much more things to do than lamenting over that low grade of yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learn from everything, be it small or big. Widen your horizons. Just know, you have the capability and sheer ability of achieving anything and everything you set your heart onto.<\/p>\n\n
