How many candidates withdrew mid-cycle, how seats were distributed across categories, and total applicant strength all affect where ranks close. Treat these as directional, not definitive.

What Happens After IISER Round 5?

Round 5 was not the final round of IISER 2026 counselling. Round 6 results were released on August 28, 2026, with a reporting deadline of August 30, 2026, and Round 7 counselling is running from September 1–3, 2026. A Round 8 remains possible in September 2026, but only if seats are still vacant after Round 7.

Who Stays Eligible for the Later Rounds?

The candidates eligible for later rounds are only the ones who accepted their offer and paid the SAF in the round they were allotted a seat — either through Freeze or Float. Missing an SAF deadline is not recoverable. Once that window closes for a given round, the portal moves on without that candidate.

What Are the Options If IISER Did Not Work Out This Year?

Some students reach this point in the counselling cycle without an allotment that works for them, or without one at all. It happens, and the next step is figuring out what actually fits.

How Do You Shortlist Private Engineering Colleges?

Plenty of students in this position start looking at Top Private Engineering Colleges in India or the Best Private Engineering Colleges in India based on NIRF data, faculty credentials, and research output. There is no extension, appeal or grievance process for missed deadlines, so payment has to be completed inside the two-day window.

Are there more counselling rounds after IISER Round 5?

Yes. Round 6 results were released on August 28, 2026, with a reporting deadline of August 30, and Round 7 counselling is running from September 1 to 3, 2026. A Round 8 may follow in September 2026 if seats remain vacant, but only SAF-paid candidates stay eligible.

What does Float actually mean in practice?

Float means the currently allotted seat is held for you while you stay inside the allotment pool. If a higher-ranked preference opens up in a later round, the system allots it automatically. The existing seat works as a safety net until the process ends or you choose to freeze.

How much is the SAF, and is any part refundable?

The fee is ₹35,000 for General, EWS, OBC-NCL, PwD and KM candidates, and ₹17,500 for SC and ST candidates. The administrative component (₹10,000 or ₹5,000 respectively) is non-refundable under any circumstance. The remaining amount is adjusted against first-semester fees once you join the allotted institute.

The portal confirmed payment, but my bank was also debited. Is that a problem?

No. A portal confirmation together with a bank debit simply means the payment completed successfully on both ends, which is the expected outcome. Save the transaction ID shown on the portal and the bank debit confirmation separately, since both may be needed during document verification at institute reporting.

My bank was debited, but the portal did not confirm.
