The students who crack JEE Main 2027 in January are not the smartest ones in the batch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are the ones who started before most people opened the syllabus. The ones giving mock tests when others were still on chapter 4. The ones who treated January as the real shot and April as the backup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are reading this now, you still have time to be that student. But not unlimited time. Here is everything you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NTA has not released official dates yet. Based on the pattern from every year since the two session format started, here is what to expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Official Notification: <\/strong>Expected October 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session 1 Registration: <\/strong>Expected first week of November 2026 on jeemain.nta.nic.in<\/p>\n\n\n\n Application Correction Window: <\/strong>Expected December 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Admit Card: <\/strong>Third week of January 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session 1 Exam: <\/strong>Last week of January 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session 2 Exam: <\/strong>First week of April 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n Check jeemain.nta.nic.in for confirmed dates once the notification drops. Do not take dates from third party sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Session 1 and Session 2 registrations are separate. You pay for each separately. If you appeared in Session 1, you do not fill the whole form again for Session 2. Just log in with your application number and pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NTA takes the best of your two session scores for the final rank. Skipping January and sitting only in April means one shot with no data on where you actually stand. January gives you a real rank and 2 to 3 months to fix what went wrong before April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Application fee is around Rs 1000 for General, EWS and OBC-NCL male candidates. Rs 800 for females. SC, ST and PwD pay Rs 500. Based on 2026 figures, may change slightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The name on your form must match your Class 10 certificate exactly. Not close. Exactly. Mismatches cause rejections. Use your own mobile number and your own email. Every OTP, every admit card link, every result goes there. Do not use a parent or relative’s contact details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paper 1 for B.Tech is 75 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours. Physics, Chemistry and Maths get 25 questions each. Within each subject 20 are MCQs with negative marking (minus 1 for wrong) and 5 are Numerical Value Questions where you type the answer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The NVQ section is where prepared students pull ahead. If you have only practised MCQs you are not ready for them. Start solving questions without options from the beginning. The answer has to come from your working, not from eliminating choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The exam is fully computer-based. Get comfortable with the on-screen interface, the built-in calculator and switching between sections before exam day. Students who face the CBT format for the first time on the actual exam waste time adjusting to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not all chapters carry equal weight. These are the ones that appear year after year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Physics: <\/strong>Mechanics (Laws of Motion, Work Energy Power, Rotational Motion), Electrostatics and Current Electricity, Optics, Modern Physics and Semiconductors, Electromagnetic Induction and AC. These appear every year without exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chemistry: <\/strong>Physical Chemistry dominates. Mole Concept, Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Kinetics, Thermodynamics. Organic: GOC, Aldehydes and Ketones, Carboxylic Acids, Amines. Inorganic: Coordination Compounds and d-f Block always show up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mathematics: <\/strong>Calculus is the biggest chunk. Limits, Differentiation, Integration, Application of Derivatives, Differential Equations. Then Coordinate Geometry, Matrices and Determinants, Complex Numbers, Probability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Do not drop anything entirely. But if you are running low on time, Statistics, basic Sets and Relations and 3D Geometry can get less focus compared to Calculus or Physical Chemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Right now through August 2026: finish the full syllabus. Every chapter, both Class 11 and 12. Do not start revision before this is done. A half-finished syllabus going into mock tests is the most common reason for low scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n September and October 2026: first revision round. Go through your notes chapter by chapter and solve 30 to 40 previous year JEE Main questions per chapter. Not Advanced. Main. This is when you find out which topics you think you know but actually do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n October to mid November 2026: register when the form opens. Start full length mock tests. At least 2 per week. Full 3 hour papers, not subject wise tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n November and December 2026: 3 to 4 full papers per week. After every test, spend at least 2 hours on error analysis. Find out whether you got something wrong because of a concept gap or a silly error. Both need different fixes and you will not fix either without identifying which one it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First two weeks of January 2027: no new topics. Revision only. Formula sheets, weak chapter notes, error log from the past 3 months. One mock every 3 days to stay sharp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Exam week: sleep 7 to 8 hours. Eat normally. Light formula review on exam morning. Nothing heavy the night before. Your brain needs to recall what you already know, not carry new half-learned content into the hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most students give a mock, check the score and move on. That is not how mocks work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The analysis after the test is more important than the test itself. Every wrong answer needs a reason. Conceptual gap or calculation mistake. If you cannot name the reason, you will make the same error next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NTA provides official mock tests on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Use these first. The interface is identical to the real exam. Knowing where the calculator is, how to flag questions and how to switch sections without losing time is worth more than you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Track your time per section across every mock. Figure out your natural rhythm. Adjust it through practice. Do not discover on exam day that you spent 75 minutes on Maths and had 45 minutes for Physics and Chemistry combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also Read: JoSAA Reporting Centres<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n NVQs now carry the same -1 negative marking as MCQs, so precision matters even though there are no options to eliminate from. Students who practise solving without options get these consistently. Students who only do MCQs blank on them in the exam. Solve at least 5 numericals per chapter per subject from day one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NCERT is the base for JEE Main Chemistry almost entirely and Physics partially. Students who study NCERT properly for boards are already doing JEE Main prep. Running two separate study plans wastes time you do not have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You will never feel fully ready before an exam. January gives you real rank data with 2 to 3 months still left before April. That information is worth more than any mock test. Students who sit only in April have one shot and no reference point. Appear in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A mock taken with 30 percent of the syllabus incomplete gives a score that means nothing and demoralises you for no reason. Finish the syllabus first. Then start mocks. Students who reverse this spend mock sessions guessing on chapters they have never studied and draw wrong conclusions about how prepared they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Every OTP, every admit card, every result notification goes to the registered contact. If you use a parent’s number or a cousin’s email and do not have constant access to it, you can miss things that cannot be recovered. Use your own. No exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n January 2027 is closer than it feels right now. The students doing well in it are already treating today like it matters. Not because they are scared.
