Nobody saw this coming \u2014 at least not officially. The NEET UG 2026 exam had already been written by over 20 lakh students on May 3. Results were awaited. And then, without warning, the National Testing Agency pulled the plug on the entire thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exam has been cancelled. A fresh one will be held. And right now, students across the country are sitting with months of preparation behind them, not knowing what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here\u2019s everything that\u2019s happened, in plain language.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n NTA\u2019s cancellation notice doesn\u2019t use the words \u201cpaper leak.\u201d But read between the lines and it\u2019s hard to interpret it any other way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Investigators in Rajasthan \u2014 specifically the Special Operations Group \u2014 reportedly recovered a handwritten sheet that contained around 120 questions from the actual exam. Nearly 90 of them were from Biology. Around 30 from Chemistry. In a paper where every mark matters, that\u2019s not a minor discrepancy. That\u2019s a catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NTA claims it received its first information about alleged malpractice on May 7 \u2014 four days after the exam was conducted. Those inputs were passed on to central agencies the very next day. Arrests followed. And eventually, the decision was made that there was no saving the integrity of this exam cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As the agency put it: \u201cThe present examination process could not be allowed to stand.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you appeared for NEET on May 3, here\u2019s what the official announcement means for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 The May 3 exam is cancelled in its entirety<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 A re-examination will take place on new dates \u2014 yet to be announced<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 The re-examination will require new admit cards which will be distributed before the test<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 You do NOT need to register again \u2014 your application stays valid<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 The re-exam will not require any additional payment from students<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Whatever fee you already paid will be refunded<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Your exam centre preferences and all other details carry forward as-is<\/p>\n\n\n\n In short \u2014 you don\u2019t have to do anything right now except wait for the new dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This isn\u2019t being treated as a routine administrative matter. The Government of India has handed the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a thorough inquiry. NTA says it will hand over all records, materials, and technical data that the CBI needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That involvement alone tells you how serious the government considers this breach to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There\u2019s no way to sugarcoat it. You prepared. You showed up. You wrote the exam. And now you\u2019re being asked to do it all over again because adults whose job was to protect this process failed at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n NTA did acknowledge this directly \u2014 saying it understands the stress and emotional burden this creates for lakhs of genuine aspirants. It also made a point of stating clearly that the honesty of the vast majority of students was never in question. The fault lies with whoever compromised the system, not with those who sat down and gave it their best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cold comfort, maybe.
