The countdown has officially begun for one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations. JEE Advanced 2026 will take place on May 17, 2026 which falls on a Sunday and IIT Roorkee will serve as the organising institute for this examination. But beyond the routine annual shift in organisers, there’s something potentially groundbreaking brewing — whispers of a JEE Advanced new exam pattern that could fundamentally reshape how the brightest engineering aspirants are evaluated across the country.

IIT Kanpur has developed a new set of aptitude-based assessment questions which evaluate students through analytical reasoning and conceptual understanding instead of their traditional formula-based test preparation. The IIT Council and Joint Admission Board have already started discussing this proposal which shows that potential changes to the system currently stand under institutional review but remain unapproved.
