The students who exited the testing centers shared their opinions which helped determine the examination difficulty and subject matter balance. The JEE Main 2026 Shift 1 paper assessed students at a moderate level because they experienced different difficulty levels in the three subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

JEE Main 2026 Shift 1 Paper Analysis

Mathematics

Mathematics turned out to be the toughest section for the majority of the aspirants. Many Students felt that Mathematics was lengthy, manageable to attempt with sufficient practice.

The subject required students to learn 3D Geometry and Vectors because 10 questions originated from coordinate geometry concepts. Conic sections also featured prominently, making coordinate geometry the dominant area. Around 8 to 10 questions were from Co-ordinate geometry, mainly focusing on 3 D Geometry & vectors.

Physics

Students perceived Physics as moderate because they showed different opinions about the subject. Current electricity and electrostatics dominated the question distribution, while semiconductor and magnetism matter had minimal representation. The examination included 8 to 10 questions which derived directly from Previous Year Questions (PYQs) because students needed to prepare these materials. The numerical section required students to use both their conceptual knowledge and their skills in applying formulas.

Chemistry

Chemistry emerged as the section that students found easiest to complete. Organic chemistry questions required students to identify name reactions because the questions did not include complex multi-step mechanisms. Inorganic chemistry drew heavily from NCERT which made the subject highly accessible for well-prepared students. However, students needed to pay special attention to coordination compounds and assertion-reasoning questions.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Question Paper: Shift 2 Analysis

The JEE Main 2026 session 2 question paper maintained consistency with the first shift but introduced subtle variations. The Physics section maintained equal distribution between Class 11th and 12th content but dedicated more time to studying optics and electricity. The Chemistry exam required students to perform multiple calculations in physical chemistry while they needed to follow NCERT guidelines for studying inorganic chemistry. The Mathematics section maintained its status as the most difficult part of the test because it included advanced questions which tested students’ understanding of complex concepts.

Key Takeaways for Future Aspirants

Students consistently emphasized the importance of PYQ practice, particularly for Physics and Chemistry.

The students needed to master NCERT content in order to succeed in inorganic chemistry while they needed to prepare advanced math skills to study coordination geometry and calculus.

Students could achieve excellent scores according to the general agreement which stated that students needed to practice and study all required topics.

Students who will take tests in future shifts should follow these guidelines: they must study all subjects evenly because they need to complete all study materials and study NCERT content for chemistry. The VMC faculty wishes all aspirants the very best for their remaining attempts!

The first day of JEE Main 2026 examinations concluded on January 21st with mixed reactions from students across both shifts.
