Negative marking in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has always been a nemesis to every student who is looking forward to scoring high in JEE. The frequent doubts regarding “Is there negative marking in JEE Mains?” need to be tackled to ensure a good percentile in JEE and admission in a good college.

On the other hand, negative marking in JEE Advanced is more complex and highly confusing for any student aiming for IITs and other high-end colleges. To secure a seat at such a premier college, one needs to reduce the negative marks.

The marking scheme for JEE is strict: a correct answer earns you 4 marks and an incorrect answer loses you 1 mark. There are no marks for the unanswered questions; that is, 0 marks for each unanswered question.

Thus, it is preferable to skip a question when one is not sure of the answer rather than attempt a guess. The system is programmed to favour accuracy over wild tries. Therefore, simply trying to answer all questions can backfire, making it essential to adopt an answer strategy focused on precision rather than quantity.

JEE Advanced tests candidates harder with a complicated marking scheme and varied question types: single correct MCQ, multiple correct MCQ, numerical answer type, and matching lists.
