Introduction

Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT Varanasi) is a public technical and research university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 1919 and was known as the Benaras Engineering College. It was later renamed as the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) in 1968 and finally as Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi in 2012. IIT Varanasi offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, technology, sciences, and humanities. The campus is spread over an area of around 800 acres. The institute has collaborations with many reputed international and national institutes to promote research and academic programs.

History

IIT Varanasi has a long history, dating back to 1919 when it was established as the Benaras Engineering College. The college was affiliated to the University of Allahabad and offered undergraduate programs in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

In 1968, the college was renamed as the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) and became an autonomous institution. In 2012, it was renamed as Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi, and it became one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011.

Since then, IIT Varanasi has grown significantly and now offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields such as engineering, technology, sciences, and humanities. The institute has also established several research centers and collaborations with reputed national and international institutions to promote research and academic programs. The academic area comprises of several modern buildings for classrooms, laboratories, and offices. The library, which is one of the main academic resources on campus, has a collection of over 2,50,000 books and subscriptions to several national and international journals.

The campus also has several research centers and labs that support the research activities of the institute. Additionally, the campus also has several amenities for students such as computer centers, a health center, and a campus store. Placement

IIT Varanasi has a strong placement record, with a large number of students getting placed in top companies every year. The institute's placement cell is responsible for coordinating and conducting the placement process for students.

The institute has a good reputation in the industry and attracts a large number of recruiters from different sectors like IT, core engineering, consulting, finance, research and development, and management. Many leading companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, and Goldman Sachs visit the campus to recruit students.

The placement process typically begins in the seventh semester for undergraduate students and the fifth semester for postgraduate students. The institute also provides training and internships to students to help them prepare for the placement process. The percentage of students placed varies from year to year and it depends on the batch strength and the job market scenario. However, the placement rate is generally high, and the majority of the students get placed with good packages. The median salary for the batch of 2021 was around 12 Lakhs per Annum, with highest salary package around 35 LPA.
