Introduction

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati) is a public technical and research university located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. IIT Tirupati offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in engineering, technology, sciences, and humanities. The institute is currently functioning from its temporary campus in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The permanent campus is being developed on a 538 acres land in Merlapaka village, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The institute has collaborations with many reputed international and national institutes to promote research and academic programs.

History

IIT Tirupati was established in 2015 as one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. It started its first academic session in 2015-16 with undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The IIT Tirupati campus is currently functioning from its temporary campus in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The permanent campus is being developed on a 538 acres land in Merlapaka village, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The campus is designed to be eco-friendly and sustainable, with features such as solar power, rainwater harvesting, and a waste management system.

Since its establishment, IIT Tirupati has grown significantly and now offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields such as engineering, technology, sciences, and humanities. The institute has also established several research centers and collaborations with reputed national and international institutions to promote research and academic programs. Department

The academic course programs (BTech/MTech/MSc) are the responsibility of individual departments, which will also run minor streams in some cases. The research specific to disciplines that are part of the department shall also be conducted therein. The thematic interdisciplinary research centres have a major focus on research and will also run MTech programs and offer minor courses/electives for BTech programs. The campus comprises of various academic and research buildings, hostels, sports facilities, and residential areas for faculty and staff. The academic area comprises of several modern buildings for classrooms, laboratories, and offices. The library, which is one of the main academic resources on campus, has a collection of over 1,50,000 books and subscriptions to several national and international journals.

The campus also has several research centers and labs that support the research activities of the institute. Additionally, the campus also has several amenities for students such as computer centers, a health center, and a campus store. The campus also has a variety of recreational facilities, including sports fields, a gym, and a student activity center.

The hostels are equipped with all necessary facilities such as mess, common room, and 24*7 security. The campus also has a guest house for the faculty, staff, and visitors. The campus is well-connected to the city and has good transportation facilities with regular bus service and auto-rickshaws.

Placement

IIT Tirupati, being a new IIT, is still in the process of building its reputation and record in the industry and as a result, there is not much information available about the placement statistics. However, the institute's placement cell is responsible for coordinating and conducting the placement process for students. The institute is working on building its reputation and industry connect, which will help in attracting a large number of recruiters from different sectors like IT, core engineering, consulting, finance, research and development, and management.

The placement process typically begins in the seventh semester for undergraduate students and the fifth semester for postgraduate students. The institute also provides training and internships to students to help them prepare for the placement process. The percentage of students placed varies from year to year and it depends on the batch strength and the job market scenario. However, the placement rate is expected to be high, and the majority of the students are expected to get placed with good packages.
