IIT Dhanbad

History

IIT Dhanbad was established in 1926 as the Indian School of Mines (ISM) in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The institute was established to provide education and training in mining and mineral engineering. ISM Dhanbad has a rich history and has played a key role in the development of the mining and mineral industries in India.

In the year 2016, ISM Dhanbad was converted to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. Since then, IIT Dhanbad has expanded its academic programs and research activities to encompass a wide range of fields such as engineering, technology, sciences, and humanities.
